Despite their announcement of being surot-free, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is still investigating the bed bugs discovered in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminals 2 and 3.
Interviewed during Balansyado on Friday, MIAA Public Affairs Department Head Connie Bungag said the airport authority does not know where exactly the bugs came from.
Bungag said MIAA is reviewing whether their pest control service provider adheres to their contract.
"We do not know exactly kung galing ito sa labas o dito sa loob. Iyon ang aming pilit na tinutugunan," said Bungag.
"Itong aming pest control service provider ay inutusan na sila na i-review yung kanilang process, and even the frequency nung paglilinis," she furthered.
It can be recalled early this week that two Facebook posts went viral on social media showing the alleged bed bugs or surot found in the steel and rattan chairs in NAIA terminals.
Several passengers in the video were complaining after getting bed bug bites.
Bungag stressed that they had immediately removed the seats infested by bed bugs and were subjected to 'deep disinfection'.
For those passengers bitten by the bed bugs, Bungag said they will cover their medical expenses as long as a receipt is provided.
"We reached out to them. One of them nag-signify na gusto niyang mag-claim nung gagastusin para sa pagpapaderma. Kami naman ay kailangan lang namin ay resibo lang nung ginastos niya, at kami naman ay tatalima doon sa kanyang request," she said.
Meanwhile, Bungag said the other seats in the airport cannot be removed altogether as the public is still using them.
All chairs were disinfected based on the schedule of sanitation.
"Nag-pull out kami ng 20 sets in a day, i-submit iyan sa disinfection, that will take around three to four days," Bungag said.
