535,000 Meralco consumers are affected by power interruptions due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine's onslaught.

In a statement on Thursday, October 24, Meralco announced that power interruptions are experienced by customers in several areas in Luzon.

“As of 8:00 am today, around 535,000 customers are affected by service interruptions — mostly in the provinces of Cavite and Laguna. There are also some in parts of Rizal, Quezon, Batangas, while the rest are in Metro Manila and Bulacan,” their statement read.

Due to the service interruptions, customers are advised to take precautions like switching off the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker and ensuring that all electrical wirings are dry.

“Rest assured that we are closely monitoring the situation and our crews are working non-stop to restore service as soon as possible. We urge everyone to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions during this time," Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga said.

Kristine is currently over the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), according to PAGASA's 8AM bulletin on Thursday, October 24.

It is expected to move west-northwest over the West Philippine Sea and is forecasted to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday, October, 25.
