A holy mass marking the first death anniversary of the late President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III will be held on June 24 in his alma mater Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City.
"Everyone is invited to attend the Holy Mass commemorating the Life and Service of President Benigno S. Aquino III, to mark the first anniversary of his passing," the statement read on Aquino's official Facebook page.
Aquino, who served as the 15th President of the Philippines, passed away in his sleep on June 24, 2021, at the age of 61 due to renal disease secondary to diabetes.
During his term, the only son of the iconic democracy leaders, late President Corazon Aquino and Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., spearheaded the economic revival of the country.
Aquino also took a tough line on tax evaders and launched criminal cases against former officials, including his predecessor Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, her family, and allies.
His anti-graft crusade was founded on the goodwill generated by the family name and its reputation for probity in a nation where corruption was endemic.
