Senator Mark Villar on Tuesday filed a bill seeking to grant transportation allowance to all government employees.
Under Senate Bill No. 1625, Villar proposed that employees with permanent status, regardless of years of service, shall be entitled to Php 2,000 worth of transportation allowance.
According to the Senator, the transportation fee burdens government employees as it "takes a huge chunk" in their paychecks.
"This bill seeks to aid government employees of the financial burden brought upon them by the surge in oil prices, which dramatically affects their day-to-day expenses," he said.
Once enacted, Villar stated that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) shall carry out the guidelines stipulated in the bill.
"In view of the foregoing, immediate approval of this bill is earnestly sought," the Senator said.
