Marikina authorities raised the second alarm for the Marikina River on Monday, July 21, as the water level rapidly rose due to continuous rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
In a Facebook post shared by the Marikina Public Information Office (PIO), the river's water level had already reached 16.0 meters as of 1:53 p.m.
A two-minute continuous alarm was sounded to signal that the river had reached the second alarm level.
