Seven key bilateral agreements are expected to be signed during the working visit of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos' to Japan this coming February 8 to 12.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Neal Imperial said the areas that would be covered are cooperation in infrastructure development, defense, agriculture, information, and communications technology, and others that are included in Marcos' priority agenda.
"The President's working visit is expected to reaffirm the strong and vibrant relationship between the two countries. It also seeks to maximize the full potential of Philippines-Japan's strategic partnership in all aspects and facilitate closer defense, security, political, and people-to-people ties," he said.
According to Imperial, the chief executive is expected to meet Japanese Prime minister Fumio Kishida, and discuss bilateral and regional issues.
As part of his commitment to Filipino seafarers, Marcos is set to meet chief executive officers (CEO) of Japanese shipping firms and associations, he said.
Alongside, Marcos will conduct round table and business meetings, and witness the signing of several business deals.
The President will also meet members of the Filipino community in Tokyo.
The official delegation to Japan includes First lady Liza Marcos, former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Senate President Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Also joining Marcos are cabinet officials namely Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla, Tourism Secretary Cristina Frasco, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., and Presidential Communication Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil.
