Marcos to Filipinos on Eid'l Adha: Grow in wisdom, fortitude
by Mary Antalan17 June 2024

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, June 17, encouraged Filipinos to grow in wisdom and fortitude amid challenges.

Marcos made the remarks in observance of Eid'I Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.

In a message, Marcos said Eid'I Adha gives Filipinos the chance to reflect on the life and tale of Ibrahim, "whose steadfast faith and unconditional love for Allah have become the core virtues of Islamic teaching."

Citing Ibrahim's tale, the President said to Filipinos that there is gain in surrender and the act of letting go, even of people and things they value the most.

“As we understand the significance of this commemoration, we feel deep within ourselves that, in nurturing our relationship with others and the Almighty, we are strengthened by our past and fueled with lessons to face tomorrow with grit and resilience,” he said.

“We will find a greater sense of purpose in uplifting the lives of others and enriching the facets that make our dreams and endeavors meaningful,” he added.

President Marcos conveyed his hopes that Filipinos will possess the mental clarity and compassion needed to go through the obstacles standing in their way towards genuine peace.

Furthermore, the President expressed his desire for a "Bagong Pilipinas" that "recognizes that they are frail and helpless without the guidance of the One from whom all wisdom and knowledge flows."

It can be recalled from last Wednesday, June 5, when Malacañang Palace announced June 17 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.
