President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, assured that the national government will hold accountable those who are responsible for the unfortunate maritime incident that led to the death of three Filipino fishermen.
In a statement posted on his X account (formerly Twitter), Marcos expressed that he was saddened by the deaths of the three fishermen.
"We assure the victims, their families, and everyone that we will exert every effort to hold accountable those who are responsible for this unfortunate maritime incident," he said.
The President said the investigation is ongoing and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is presently "backtracking and checking all monitored vessels" in the area."
"Let us allow the PCG to do its job and investigate, and let us refrain from engaging in speculation in the meantime," Marcos said.
He also assured that the grieving families of the three fishermen would be receiving assistance and support from the national government.
According to Philippine National Police's (PNP) incident report, three crews of the fishing vessel FFB DEARYN, including its boat captain, died after their fishing boat was rammed by an unidentified foreign commercial vessel on Oct. 2, Monday.
Ten crew members survived and reported the incident on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The remains of the three slain Filipino fisherfolks have been transported to the Municipality of Infanta in Pangasinan province.
As of this posting, the foreign commercial vessel has yet to be identified.
