

A recently released convict was shot and killed after grabbing a police officer’s firearm and opening fire inside the Carmona Police Station in Cavite early Wednesday, July 2, resulting in the death of one officer and serious injury to another.
According to a report by RH Erik Dastas, the suspect, identified as "Ahmad," 29, a resident of Brgy. Limook, Basilan, had just been released from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended by barangay officials in Carmona for alleged involvement in a robbery incident.
Moreover, barangay personnel brought the suspect, handcuffed, to the Carmona Component City Police Station for investigation.
However, at around 9:20 a.m., while inside the station, the suspect suddenly grabbed the service firearm of Police Master Sergeant Joel Mendoza and fired multiple shots indiscriminately.
Mendoza sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead after being rushed to Pagamutang Bayan ng Carmona.
Another officer, Police Staff Sergeant Joseph Martin Fabula, was also shot during the incident and is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Authorities recovered a Glock pistol, which belonged to PSSg Mendoza, from the scene.
The suspect was also gunned down during the altercation and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
An internal investigation is underway, with two on-duty officers at the time of the incident being questioned regarding the circumstances that allowed the suspect to gain access to a firearm while in custody.
