The Plaza Miranda Police Community Precinct (PCP) arrested a man who cracked a bomb joke amidst the first Friday mass in Quiapo Church, Manila on Friday, January 5.

Interviewed by RH Boy Gonzales, Plaza Miranda PCP Chief Rowell Robles said the 40-year-old man uttered “Magpapasabog ako” to the mass-goers.

“Binubulongan ang mga deboto, mga parishioner, mga nagsisimba na may pasasabugin siya na bomba,” he said.

PCP personnel manning the area reportedly heard the remark and arrested him.

“Hindi niya [elder man] napapansin na sinusundan na siya ng police. Naririnig ang mga sinasabi niya. Sympre natatakot ang mga nagsisimba kaya pinaaresto natin,” Robles said.

When asked about the man's condition, the Plaza Miranda PCP Chief said: “Naka-short at t-shirt. Mukhang normal naman kasi nakarating dito. Wala lang sigurong magawa.”

The bomb joker might face possible charges, according to Gonzales’ report during DZRH Dos Por Dos.

In a chance interview, the 40-year-old man told Gonzales that he only uttered, “Kunware po ay may naghagis ng granda dito. Patay tayo dito.”

“Ayun lang ang nasabi ko. Wala na pong iba. Humingi naman ako ng pasensya sa mga tao at saka sa security. Sana patawarin ako. Hindi ko naman sinasadya,” he added.

As of 6 AM, the crowd estimate in Quiapo Church reportedly reached 11,000, and heavy traffic was felt around the church’s vicinity.
