As the country gathers to honor National Artist Nora Aunor at her state funeral on Tuesday, April 22, Malacañang issued Proclamation No. 870, declaring the said date a day of national mourning.
According to the Proclamation signed on April 21, the passing of Nora Cabaltera Villamor, famously known as Nora Aunor, the National Artist for Film and Broadcast, is a great loss to the Filipino people and the nation’s cultural and artistic community.
“Her outstanding contribution to Philippine cinema, television, and music has left a lasting legacy on the nation’s collective memory and identity,” the Proclamation read.
“Her artistry, depth, and dedication as a performer elevated the standard of excellence in the fields of arts and culture, and inspired generations of actors, filmmakers, and audiences, in both local and international stage,” it added.
With this, the nation joins Nora’s family and friends in their moment of grief and remembrance.
“As provided for by the law, the national flag shall be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset, on all government buildings and installations throughout the Philippines and abroad, on April 22, 2025,” the Proclamation read, in pursuant of Section 27(k), Chapter 1 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 8491 or the “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.”
Nora died on April 16 due to acute respiratory failure. She was 71.
