A second impeachment complaint against Vice President (VP) Sara Duterte will be filed on Wednesday, the Makabayan bloc confirmed on Tuesday.
The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan or BAYAN, composed of several progressive groups, will endorse its filing, following the Akbayan Party-list on Monday. According to the group, the impeachment raps to be filed against the VP are signed by 50 representatives from various progressive organizations and concerned citizens.
Aside from that, the group will also conduct a protest in front of the Batasang Pambansa. Similar to the Akbayan Party-list’s reasons, the group will be filing the complaint based on the VP’s allegations of corruption and misuse of confidential funds, specifically from the latter’s office and the Department of Education (DepEd).
According to Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel, talks are ongoing between them and the other concerned organizations. He said that they are still in the process of finalizing the draft, and did not elaborate on the grounds they will cite.
On Monday, advocacy groups filed the first impeachment complaint against the VP, citing culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.
The complaint covers areas like the suspected misuse of confidential funds, and the death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The group will be filing the complaint on Wednesday, at the office of House Secretary General Reginald Velasco.
