The first-ever and historic impeachment complaint against Vice President (VP) Sara Duterte was endorsed by Akabayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña on Monday at the House of Representatives.

Its filing was done in support of the public’s demand to hold the VP accountable for the anomalies within the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

In a statement, Cendaña affirmed his full support towards the brave citizens calling for the VP to answer her “blatant violations of the Constitution, egregious corruption, and complicity in mass murder.” Moreover, Duterte also made threats to the national security and safety of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

“Panahon na para isara ng taumbayan ang bangunot na dulot ni Sara. Vice President Duterte deserves to be impeached for her abuse of power and plunder of the nation’s coffers. The Filipino people deserve a vice president who is ethical, accountable, and committed to public service—not one who weaponizes authority for personal gain,” Cendaña said.

Additionally, Cendaña said that such efforts also align with the former administration’s drug war, which claimed thousands of lives. Until today, closure for the grieving families remains elusive; A great contrast to the perpetrators who continue to evade accountability and cling to power, the representative noted.

“Our country must not allow the Duterte family’s legacy of corruption and mass murder to persist unchallenged. The entrenched culture of impunity and graft will only be dismantled when those who perpetuate and profit from it are held to account. This impeachment complaint is but a first step. It must inspire and pave the way for further efforts to bring the Dutertes and their allies before the altar of justice,” he said.

“We must demand a future free from the shadows of corruption and abuse—a future where power is wielded responsibly and in service of the Filipino people,” he added.

The House Blue Ribbon Committee is currently holding its investigation on the OVP and DepEd’s misuse of confidential and intelligence funds.

Advocacy groups and former Sen. Leila de Lima accompanied Cendaña during the impeachment filing.

Last week, the NBI issued a subpoena against the former due to the threats she made toward the President, the First Lady, and the House Speaker.
