The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Tuesday placed the Luzon and Visayas grids under yellow alert.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the Luzon grid will be on yellow alert from 1 PM to 5 PM and 6 PM to 10 PM. It added that 18 power plants are on forced outage, while two are running on derated capacities, for a total of 1,518.9MW unavailable to the grid.
The Luzon grid has an available capacity of 14,799 megawatts (MW) against an expected peak demand of 13,690 MW.
Meanwhile, the Visayas grid will be on yellow alert from 1 PM to 8 PM. It has an available capacity of 2,742 MW against an expected peak demand of 2,571 MW.
According to the NGCP, at least 20 power plants are on forced outage, while nine are running on derated capacities, for a total of 604.4MW unavailable to the grid.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
