The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Tuesday announced that Luzon and Visayas grids have returned to normal after being placed under red and yellow alerts.
"Luzon and Visayas grids condition, 09 May 2023: The Luzon and Visayas grids are under normal condition," NGCP said in an update posted on Facebook.
On Monday, several parts of Luzon areas experienced power outages amid extreme heat after the NGCP raised a red alert from 1 pm to 4 pm while a yellow alert had been issued from 6 pm to 8 pm.
“A red alert status is issued when the power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement,” the NGCP earlier said in an advisory.
“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s regulating and contingency requirement.”
A yellow alert was also declared in Visayas from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
At about 6 pm on Monday, the NGCP lifted the red alert for the Luzon grid.
The yellow alert, meanwhile, for the Visayas grid was raised at 9 pm.
