The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday, Nov. 23, announced that the driver's license of an SUV driver, who side-swiped an Angkas rider and his backrider along EDSA Southbound in Brgy. Wack-wack, Mandaluyong City, has been preventively suspended.
“Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II has ordered the preventive suspension of the driver’s license of a motorist whose failure to control his anger led to a road accident that inflicted serious injuries on an Angkas rider and his backrider in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday, November 22,” the agency said in a press release posted on its official Facebook page.
According to LTO, the SUV driver is facing violations of Reckless Driving (Section 48), Duty of a driver in case of accident (Section 55), and Improper Person to Operate a Vehicle (Section 27-a) under Republic Act 4136.
“A Show Cause Order was already issued against the driver of Suzuki Wagon to explain his side,” it said.
Citing reports from the LTO-National Capital Region and local police, LTO said the driver, whose Suzuki Wagon car is registered to a bank, was caught in a dash video side-sweeping an Angkas rider and his backrider in Mandaluyong City.
The agency said the Suzuki Wagon driver alleged that the Angkas driver cut in the way which caused him to get “mad since he almost hit the motorcycle and was further irked when he was ignored by the Angkas driver when he was warning him.”
The dashcam video went viral on social media after Angkas co-founder and chief executive officer George Royeca shared this to ask the public’s help to identify the car owner involved in the incident.
“I am putting out a reward to anyone who can direct the authorities to the owner of the orange Suzuki XL7. Walang lugar sa daan para sa mga katulad nito,” he earlier said.
The SUV driver is reportedly now under the custody of the police and will be facing attempted murder charges.
