The Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) is now on its normal operation after it experienced a technical problem earlier today, June 25.
"Balik na sa full line operation ang LRT Line 2 matapos na matagumpay na naisaayos ang problema sa rectifier substation sa bandang Katipunan Station. May biyahe na mula RECTO STATION hanggang ANTIPOLO STATION at pabalik," the LRT-2 announced.
The management also announced that it will continue the train's free fare until tomorrow, June 26, as ordered by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Earlier, the train announced that it experienced a technical problem, resulting in the delay of the train's opening from Recto to Araneta Center-Cubao Station and vice versa—from 5 AM, delayed to 6 AM.
The LRT-2 later said it implemented provisionary service and that only Recto Station to Araneta Center-Cubao and vice versa would operate by 7 AM.
In an interview during Damdaming Bayan, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Hernando Cabrera said that the train had a problem due to its power supply system.
"At around three in the morning nagde-deploy na tayo ng mga tren natin, kaya lang around 3:30, 'yung mga train natin nandoon sa may Katipunan, nagkaroon ito ng aberya. Upon evaluation, nag-inquire kami sa ating mga personnel kung kaya pa ba magbukas ng alas singko, ang sagot sa atin ay hindi kakayanin, so nag-announce tayo ng alas sais," he said.
Cabrera said that upon further evaluation of the train, they discovered a problem in transformer number 5 and number 6, which process power supply from Meralco to be used in the train's operation.
This resulted in the management implementing a partial operation at 6:45 AM from Recto to Araneta Center-Cubao Stations only. Meanwhile, operations from Cubao Station to Antipolo were halted.
Aside from the free fare in LRT, bus rides were also offered for passengers from Antipolo to Cubao Station and vice versa.
Passengers were reported to have been stranded due to the said technical problem.
