Liza Soberano laments: Where is the support of PH gov’t for the poor?
by Christhel Cuazon25 March 2021

Known for making a stand on national issues, actress Liza Soberano on Monday lamented the lack of government support for poor families amid the growing number of coronavirus cases in the country.

In a tweet, the 23-year-old actress said, “My heart bleeds for all the people who cannot afford not to go out and work. They literally have to choose between dying of starvation or dying of Covid. Is our country really this poor to no be able to provide stimulus?? Genuine question lang po.”

Liza added that it is easy to stay at home “if everyone has food on the table and money to pay the bills” as she compared the country’s status of vaccination program to that of the United States of America which is now in its second stimulus.

“America has received 2 rounds of stimulus already, waiting on the 3rd. Covid testing is free, vaccination is free. Where is the support for the poor in our country? Madali lang naman po mag stay at home if everyone has food on the table and money to pay the bills,” she wrote.

The Philippine government on Sunday imposed a stricter general community quarantine (GCQ) in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal — also known as the NCR Plus — in order to combat the spread of COVID-19 until April 4.

Earlier, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that no financial aid would be given to residents inside the said areas under the GCQ bubble.

The government provided two-time PHP5,000-8,000 cash assistance to millions of low-income families affected by the enhanced community quarantine last year.
