Instead of amending the 1987 Constitution, Senator Loren Legarda wanted to focus on resolving the inflation crisis, poverty, and high unemployment rate.

"For those espousing an amendment to Constitution, is it really the way towards a sustainable pandemic recovery? Which would bring employment to our people? Which could cure the issues that I just mentioned? And my clear answer is a categorical no," she in an interview with another media outlet.

In the report of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the country's inflation rate for the month of February has remained elevated, ranging between 8.5 to 9.3 percent, exceeding the record-high 8.7 percent in January.

Legarda also underlined that the country is still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and the fund to be used for the amendment will be impractical.

"They have their point. [I'm] willing to listen, but spending billions of pesos for a constitutional convention would be against I think the mandate that the people have just given me. So, I'm not in favor," she added.

The House panel previously approved the resolution calling for the conduct of a constitutional convention (con-con) to amend or revise the 1987 Constitution.
