The water level at La Mesa Dam in Quezon City reached 79.80 meters as of 10 PM on Thursday night, October 24, nearing its spilling level of 80.15 meters.
In an advisory, the Philippine Information Agency for Metro Manila stated that the current status is at a critical level, set at 79.50 meters.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has indicated that the water level is expected to rise further due to moderate to occasional heavy rains caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
La Mesa Dam does not have gates to control floodwater accumulation. PAGASA has warned that once the dam reaches its spilling point, excess water will overflow, potentially impacting nearby communities.
The anticipated overflow may significantly affect low-lying areas along the Tullahan River, including:
- Quezon City: Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome.
- Valenzuela: North Expressway and La Huerta Subdivision.
- Malabon: Various low-lying neighborhoods.
Residents in these areas, particularly those living near the riverbanks, are urged to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely. PAGASA advises the public to prepare for possible evacuation if water levels continue to rise.
