Several labor organizations and progressive groups marched in España, Manila to call on the government to increase worker’s daily minimum wages and address several labor issues in the country on Monday, Labor Day.
Interviewed by RH Raymund Dadpaas, Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP) spokesperson Wilson Fortaleza said they are calling for decent wages and the end of contractualization.
“Pinaka-importante ngayon, kailangan natin itigil ang malawak [na] paglabag sa karapatang pantao at karapatan ng manggagawa. Ayun ang mga kaso ng extra-judicial killings, red-tagging, at iba pa na nakakahadlang doon sa malayang pag-organisa ng union,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rene Magtubo of the Partido Manggagawa (PM) likewise said they are appealing for the end of End-of-contract (Endo) or the short-term employment scheme and pushing for the regularization of employees.
Alongside this, he said they are also seeking for higher salary and lower prices of goods.
"Kailangan namin ay proklamasyon ng gobyerno na tutugon sa aming panawagan. Ayan ang inaasahan namin mga manggagawa,” Magtubo stressed.

On the other hand, healthcare workers of the United Private Hospital Union of the Philippines (UPHUP) demanded the Department of Health (DOH) to the release their long-overdue Health Emergency Allowance (HEA) or One COVID-19 Allowance (OCA).
“18 months pero 3 months pa lang naibibigay. Sobrang tagal na, mga kasama, kaya sa araw na ito ay isisigaw natin sa DOH, kay Usec. [Maria Rosario] Vergeire sana madaliin,” a UPHUP member lamented.
“Tatlong taon na tayo naghihirap para makuha ang benepisyo na iyan,” he added.
The groups then headed to Mendiola, Manila where a mini program was held.
