Former senator JV Ejercito has revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Ejercito, who is seeking a comeback in the Senate, revealed that his symptoms first appeared on January 1, when he suffered from fever for two days.

"Tapos nagpa-check ako, 'yun nag-antigen, nag-positive nga," he told DZRH on Tuesday.

(Then I got myself checked, had an antigen, and it yielded positive.)

According to Ejercito, it is likely that he caught the Omicron variant because he only suffered from mild symptoms of COVID-19.

"Mukhang ito yung Omicron variant kasi mabilis siyang nakahawa pero mabilis din namang nawala," he said.

(This seems like the Omicron variant because it was quick to spread but it also quickly disappeared.)

"Tsaka talagang 'yung naging symptoms ko lang, nagkaron ako ng fever, pero yung panlasa lahat, hindi naman ako nagkaron ng diarrhea or other symptoms so 'yun lang," he added.

(And my symptoms only included fever, but my sense of taste and others, I didn’t have diarrhea or other symptoms, just fever.)

The former senator also said that he does not know how he contracted the disease, but it could be because he attended several gatherings during the holiday season.

Currently, he said he remains in quarantine but his fever has already gone down.

"From 38.9 dati, ngayon nasa 36 na lang, 35.9 na lang. So mabilis naman siya nawala, very mild naman," he said.

(From 38.9 before, now it’s only 36, 35.9. So it quickly disappeared, it was very mild.)

"Kaya nga hindi ko naisip na COVID ito kasi yung panlasa ko tsaka yung pang-amoy hindi naman nawala. 'Yun lang nung antigen, dun ko lang nalaman nag-positive ako," he said.

(This is why I didn’t think it was COVID because my sense of taste and scent did not disappear. It was only because of the antigen that I learned I was positive.)

"Tapusin ko yung quarantine para lang makasigurado saka papalakas din muna. Pero siguro I'll start doing light exercises."

The senatorial aspirant said this is the first time he caught COVID-19 since the pandemic broke out in the country.
