President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Joseph "Jeff" Francisco Ortega as the new National Youth Commission (NYC) Chairperson, replacing Ronald Cardema.
Ortega's appointment is in line with the administration’s commitment to empower Filipino youth and ensuring their voices are represented at the highest levels of government.
With a background in tourism and youth advocacy, he has been serving as the Regional Director of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 1 since 2019.
He led various initiatives to enhance regional tourism and promote sustainable development.
The new Chairperson earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ateneo de Manila University in 2013 and later completed a Master of Business Administration at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business in 2023.
The President also named Karl Josef Legazpi, a Director at the House of Representatives, as the second Commissioner-at-Large for the NYC.
