The Filipino-American stand-up comedian, Jo Koy, and his family were among the 355 passengers and crew aboard the Philippine Airlines (PAL) craft that was forced to make an emergency landing at Haneda Airport in Japan on early Thursday, April 9.
In an Instagram post the same day, Jo Koy said that he and his family were on their way back to Los Angeles from the Philippines, when the entire cabin filled with smoke due to an electrical fire.
He said they eventually made an emergency landing in Tokyo, Japan, and commended the flight attendants from PAL for remaining calm.
“We had to do an emergency landing in Tokyo, Japan. But I’m gonna say this, the flight attendants on Philippine Airlines (PAL) were amazing. You were amazing, above and beyond. You guys were pros, thank you for remaining calm in a situation that could’ve [gone] south, fast,” he said in the video.
“But we are safe, and we are in Tokyo. Our next flight out is in nine hours, so we’re gonna have some sake,” he added.
