Signal No. 1 is hoisted in Batanes as Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Jenny slightly intensified over the Philippine Sea, the latest bulletin from the state weather bureau showed.
As of 4 PM, PAGASA said it tracked STS Jenny 760 kilometers (km) East of Aparri in Cagayan province.
STS Jenny is packed with 100 km per hour (kph) winds that could gusts of up to 125 kph.
The state weather bureau said STS Jenny is moving northwestward at 15 kph speed and is foreseen to continue in this direction until the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 3 toward Luzon Strait.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is hoisted in Batanes which means strong winds are possible to be experienced.
PAGASA said its forecast showed that Jenny may be elevated into typhoon category on Sunday night, Oct. 1, and it may reach 155 kph peak intensity by Tuesday.
“On the track forecast, JENNY will traverse over the southern portion of Taiwan on Wednesday evening or Tuesday morning before emerging the eastern waters of Taiwan,” the state weather bureau said.
STS Jenny is expected to exit the country’s area of responsibility on Thursday, Oct. 5. But PAGASA is not ruling out Jenny's probable landfall over extreme Northern Luzon.
From Sunday to Monday, gusty conditions will prevail over Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and on Tuesday, over Western Visayas, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and most of Calabarzon.
A gale warning is up over the coastal waters of Extreme Northern Luzon and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan which means small-sized vessels are advised to take precautions.
