An Indian national was nabbed by anti-narcotics investigators on Tuesday night after allegedly receiving a shipment containing five kilograms of dried opium poppy pods worth P1 million during a controlled delivery operation in Pasay City.
At around 9 p.m., Amandeep Singh, 37, was handcuffed after receiving the parcel at the Central Mail Exchange Center on Domestic Road.
However, the suspect claimed he was unaware of the parcel containing illegal drugs because he had only ordered medicine for his back pain.
According to a police Drug Enforcement Group report, officers also seized the suspect's cell phone and identification cards.
The suspect is being held on the charge of unlawful drug importation, which is a violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
