Re-elected Senator Imelda “Imee” Marcos met with former President Rodrigo Duterte’s legal counsel as she continues to push for his return to the Philippines.
She said she empathized with the familiar feeling of being distant from her country and had opposed Duterte’s transfer and detention in The Hague, Netherlands, from the start.
“Sabi ko kay VP (Sara Duterte), higit kanino man, alam ko ang pakiramdam ng mawalay sa sariling bayan, kaya’t simula’t sapul alam niya ang laman ng aking puso patungkol sa di katanggap-tanggap na sinapit ni PRRD (President Rodrigo Duterte),” Marcos said in a Facebook post.
(I told VP Sara Duterte, more than anyone else, I know the feeling of being separated from my homeland. So from the very beginning, she has known the contents of my heart concerning the unacceptable fate of President Rodrigo Duterte.)
The senator said that at least one Marcos learned from history, and that she was with Atty. Nicholas Kaufman, the head of Duterte’s elder legal counsel, and is not only for Duterte but for all Filipinos.
Earlier, she claimed the former President’s arrest was part of a “whole-of-government effort to bring down the Dutertes,” the “clear pattern” beginning with the thwarted People’s Initiative (PI), which was allegedly an attempt to block Sara Duterte from a chance at presidency in 2028.
