As Senate preparations for Vice President (VP) Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial are underway, House Secretary Reginald Velasco expressed his satisfaction with the former’s efforts during an inspection on Tuesday, March 18.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. briefed Velasco on their ongoing preparations for VP Sara’s impeachment trial. The same day, he showed the designated holding area for the House Prosecution Panel and the Secretariat Support Group (SSG)
The report by RH 12 Milky Rigonan stated that Velasco was accompanied by his staff during the ocular inspection. According to the report, the Senate has assigned the “Senator Arturo M. Tolentino” room for the House Prosecutors and SSG. Velasco had previously requested a holding area for the prosecution team and staff for the vice president’s impeachment trial.
Bantug accompanied Velasco inside the Senate Session Hall to show the impeachment court set-up. According to the former, it mirrors the arrangement used during the late Chief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial.
"Upon the request of the House, they wanted to see the preparation that the Senate is undertaking for the impeachment trial. Pinakita ko muna kay Sec. Gen yung set-up dito sa session hall, which is actually the set-up that was also implemented during the last impeachment trial of the late former Chief Justice Renato Corona," Bantug explained.
Apart from the Senate, Velasco mentioned they would also allot an office for the prosecution team inside Congress for backroom operations. The space will be utilized by the House secretariat and other officials.
