The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability asked the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to verify the civil registry records of the 1,992 individuals linked to the misuse of the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) confidential funds, under Vice President (VP) Sara Duterte.
In a letter dated December 9, the Committee Chairperson and Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua sought the help of National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Claire Dennis Mapa.
“May we request for the verification of the Civil Registry Documents (birth, marriage, and death) of the names in the attached list relative to the investigation being conducted by the Committee,” the letter read.
The listed names included were the ones who signed the acknowledgment receipts (ARs) submitted by VP Duterte’s office to the Commission on Audit (COA), for the years 2022 and 2023.
In the past, the Committee had already requested PSA to verify 667 names linked to the confidential funds disbursed by the Department of Education (DepEd), during Duterte’s period as secretary. On Monday, Chua announced that PSA confirmed 405 out of the 677 names were non-existent.
The PSA earlier confirmed that there were no records available for Mary Grace Piattos, based on the PS’s Civil Registry System (CRS) database.
The revelation prompted the House panel to demand transparency and leave no stone unturned.
