After receiving backlash over his allegedly ‘humorous’ manner of announcing class and work suspensions during inclement weather, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla insisted on Wednesday, July 23, that he will not change his style and behavior.
"Pasensya na, pero hindi na ako magbabago ng ugali,” said Remulla on DILG Facebook post.
Critics earlier called his posts “inappropriate” and “insensitive,” as the country continues to experience the effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat, and recent typhoons.
In response, Remulla clarified that his intent was never to offend, and maintained that he did not use foul language or disrespect anyone.
"Kung ang biro ko ay di karapat-dapat para sa inyo, tandaan ninyong wala naman akong minura, minaliit, o hinamak. Wala rin akong binola o sinabing kasinungalingan,” he emphasized.
“A little humor never hurt anyone," he added.
The DILG chief noted that while his style may not appeal to everyone, he believes that clear communication delivered in a relatable and human manner helps people stay informed.
Despite the criticism, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. defended Remulla, backing his role in announcing class and work suspensions during calamities.
According to the President, Remulla’s appointment as the government's official announcer for suspensions during calamities was a deliberate decision aimed at improving coordination and response.
