The tandem of presidential aspirant Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson and his running mate Vicente 'Tito' Sotto III have dropped former Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista and re-electionist Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian from their senatorial slate for the May 2022 polls.
"Sen Sherwin Gatchalian and ex-Mayor Herbert Bautista have made their choices of the principles and advocacies that they will embrace moving forward in this political exercise. Obviously, they are not ours,” Lacson said in a tweet.
"They now cease to be part of the Lacson-Sotto team,” he added.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Lacson disclosed that Bautista sent them a letter informing them that he wanted to be the representative of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) in presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and vice-presidential candidate Sara Duterte’s “UniTeam.”
Gatchalian and Bautista are both members of the NPC, a national party chaired by Sotto.
The two senatorial candidates were also absent during the proclamation rally of Lacso and sotto in Cavite but were present at the campaign kickoff of the Marcos-Duterte tandem.
