A Filipino-Chinese and a lawyer are being tagged as the alleged funders of the group involved in the riot during an anti-corruption rally yesterday, according to initial reports cited by Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno.
In an interview with DZRH early Monday, Moreno said the Filipino-Chinese individual is a former politician in Manila. Both suspects, members of “Partido Politikal,” allegedly financed the group.
“Inaalam namin kung kanino galing itong nagpondo, kasi nagkabayaran e,” said Moreno.
“Malalaman din natin kung ano ang totoo but for the meantime dalawa yung pinagdududahan natin,” he added.
Moreno added that more than 100 individuals have been arrested and are now detained at the Manila Police District.
“Kakasuhan lahat ’yon ng arson… ng damage to property, government property and private property… may mga menor de edad din,” Moreno told DZRH.
Meanwhile, the NCRPO reported that 102 people were arrested and charges are now being prepared against them. The police also said at least 130 officers were injured during the riot.
The Philippine National Police was on red alert and implemented maximum tolerance.
It can be recalled that the group set fire to a container truck placed on Ayala Bridge during the "Baha sa Luneta: Aksyon Laban sa Korapsyon" rally. They also destroyed and burned a motorcycle.
Stone-throwing incidents were also observed, with rocks, bottles, and metal objects hurled, particularly in the Mendiola area.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Monday that the group had planned to “burn down” Malacañang.
Police said 300 to 400 people could have been harmed had the group not been stopped.
