Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco accepted on Tuesday the post of Tourism Secretary offered by President-elect Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

"It is with profound gratitude and deep humility that I accept the offer of President-elec Bongbong Marcos to serve the Filipino people as the next Secretary of the Department of Tourism," said Frasco in a statement.

"Cognizant of the necessity and effectivity of strong support for and among local government units, consensus-building, coordination, and collaboration with tourism stakeholders and the private sector, infrastructure investment, sustainability and innovation, job generation and social protections for tourism workers, and focused strategies on the development of our core strengths, I am eager to support President-elect Marcos' vision to revitalize tourism so it may significantly propel the Philippines' post-pandemic economic growth," she added.

As a mayor from Cebu, Frasco said she has seen firsthand the "devastating effects" of the pandemic and recent calamities, as well as the impact of effective governance on reviving the tourism industry.

Meanwhile, Frasco also expressed her gratitude to Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, who she served as spokesperson.

"I wish to thank Vice President-elect Sara Duterte for entrusting me with the honor of being her spokesperson," she said. "I look forward to serving with her and the President-elect as they usher in a new era of unity, prosperity, and hope for our country."

Frasco was among the nominations of Marcos that incoming press secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles named on Monday.

Alongside the Liloan mayor, Erwin Tulfo was also tapped to lead the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Amenah Pangandaman for the Department of Budget and Management, Ivan John Enrile Uy for the Department of Information and Communications, and Naida Angping for the Presidential Management Staff.
