Caloocan City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has convicted Police Master Sergeant Virgilio Cervantes and police corporals Arnel de Guzman, Johnston Alacre, and Artemio Saguros of homicide.
On a drug war operation conducted in 2016, Luis and Gabriel Bonifacio were shot to death at a slum in Manila. The four officers were sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for the crime, said Presiding Judge Ma. Rowena Violago Alejandria in her written verdict that was released on Tuesday.
At the time of his reign, Duterte’s War on Drugs was a highly saturated event wherein 30,000 lives were claimed. While it is still being investigated today, the first conviction was back in 2018 for the murder of Kian delos Santos.
