Liberal Party President and Albay Representative Edcel Lagman said on Thursday that former Vice President (VP) Leni Robredo is eyeing to run for the 2025 mayoral position in Naga City.
According to Lagman, the former VP said in a past conversation that she would continue the plans of her late husband, former Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary and former Naga Mayor, Jesse Robredo.
The late Robredo was a well-known and beloved figure in Naga City, which he governed for 19 years. He was able to transform the city into one of Asia's Most Improved and has since been recognized for his accolades.
When asked about social media's call for President Marcos Jr. to appoint Robredo as the new Department of Education (DepEd) lead, Lagman remarked that it is up to her whether or not she would accept the offer.
"‘Yan ay call ni Leni. Wala kaming control diyan at hindi namin ini-expect na siya ay aalukin ng Pangulo. But if it is offered, we will study that intently, as it is an opportunity for our presidential candidate to continue serving the country. (That's Leni's call. We don't have control over that, and we don't expect an offer coming from the President. However, if it will be offered, we will study that intently, as it is an opportunity for our presidential candidate to continue serving the country)," Lagman specified in an interview with reporters.
Robredo has yet to confirm her plans for the upcoming 2025 midterm polls.
