Far Eastern University notched its second win streak after defeating the winless University of the East in the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan on Wednesday.
The Lady Tamaraw gave Lady Warriors their sixth straight loss with a suspenseful 25-19, 18-25, 25-12, 22-25, 15-5 win.
Team veteran sophomore winger Chenie Tagaod rekindled the fire of her team with 23 points off 18 attacks, 3 blocks, and 2 aces, with the help of third-year spiker Jovelyn Fernandez scoring out a career-best 22 points off and 17 attacks.
"Sobrang happy na first round pa lang, to be honest 'no na-exceed 'yung expectation. Since nandito na kami, hindi kami pwedeng huminto," Tamaraw coach Tina Salak said.
After a downer 25-12 defeat in the third, UE's Van Bangayan and KC Cepada came alive in the fourth set to force a decider, 25-22.
The Lady Tamaraws moved back at 3-3 while the Lady Warriors dropped to 0-6.
UE will try to finally break its drought on Saturday against the University of Santo Tomas while FEU battles National University.
