The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the emergency use authorization (EUA) of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 6 to 11 years old.
This was confirmed by Health Promotion and Communication Service Director Dr. Beverly Ho in a media briefing on Tuesday.
The DOH, however, still awaits the recommendation of the World Health Organization for the use of Moderna for ages 6 to 11.
This will be the guide of the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) for its independent evaluation.
In a letter to Zuellig Pharma Corp. dated May 20, the FDA said the recommended dose for kids from this age group is 0.25 milliliters (ml) - half the 0.5 ml administered to persons aged 12 and up.
The first and second doses must be administered 28 days apart, it added.
