President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has issued an order maintaining the reduced tariff rates of mechanically deboned meat (MDM) of chicken and turkey.
In Executive Order No. 13 dated January 13, 2023, Marcos extended the tariff of MDM of chicken and turkey at 5 percent until December 31, 2024.
"There is a need to maintain the reduced tariff rates on mechanically deboned meat of chicken and turkey to ensure continued supply of essential food products at affordable prices, diversify the country's market sources, and help businesses recover and sustain their operations," the order reads.
The reduced MDM tariff rates were first endorsed by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to the President on December 28.
According to the issuance, the MDM rates shall be subject to review after one year of the order's implementation.
"For this purpose, the NEDA shall submit to the President through the Office of the Executive Secretary, its findings and recommendations on the matter," it added.
