Former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno revealed that crimes have reportedly resurfaced in Manila City.
In an exclusive interview with DZRH's Special on Saturday, Moreno reiterated that the residents of Manila are concerned about the return of robbers, snatchers, and other criminals in the area.
"Even the Senate, their attention were caught na inimbestigahan pa ang sitwasyon sa R-10," he added.
He also pointed out the need for the mayor of the city to create a clear sense of direction, ensuring law enforcement and uniformed personnel know that maintaining peace and order in the community is a key focus.
The former mayor also mentioned that it is important for the people in the community to see that criminals will be caught and held accountable by the law.
During his tenure as mayor, he implemented a practice where he personally presented arrested criminals, stating that this act assured the public that the local government unit was taking action.
From a business standpoint, presenting arrested criminals helps ensure that livelihoods remain unaffected, allowing people to work without fear. As trust in the local government grows, businesses thrive, leading to higher tax revenues and improved public services.
Meanwhile, during his term, he also mentioned that he told the Manila Police District (MPD) about their "one-strike" policy, stating that if someone failed to do their job, they would be removed from their position.
He pointed out that he had arrested many individuals during his term and immediately removed those who failed to meet their responsibilities. He made it clear that they were duty-bound to do their jobs, as the public had placed their trust in them.
Ultimately, he underscored that a mayor shouldn’t be stuck behind a desk, highlighting the need to be on the ground, actively checking on the community.
"I have to be honest, hindi siya madali physically. You have to love it. Kailangang gustuhin mo, kailangang mahalin mo.
Having served from 2019 to 2022, the mayoral candidate is now vying for a return to office. His key opponent is his former running mate, who is now the Manila Mayor, Honey Lacuna.
