A former Cateel, Davao Oriental mayor was shot dead by an unidentified suspect in Brgy. Buhangin, Davao City on Wednesday morning, Nov. 22.
According to the Davao City Police Office's initial report obtained by RH Jun Dimacutac, a male suspect shot the victim, identified as Giselo Velasco, while his car was about to leave Brgy. Buhangin, Davao City where he and his companions ate breakfast.
The suspect reportedly used a .45 caliber pistol to shoot Velasco four times.
"After shooting the victim suspect boarded and waited for the motorcycle and sped off towards the Buhangin area," the Davao City Police said.

The former Cateel, Davao Oriental mayor's driver identified as Junie Castro, and companion named Alma Lozentes were also shot.
The Davao City Police said the responding ambulance declared the former Cateel, Davao Oriental mayor dead on the spot.
"While the driver was brought to SMPC [Southern Philippines Medical Center] hospital for treatment," it added.
A hot pursuit operation was launched to catch the unidentified suspect.
