Enchong Dee on Monday voluntarily surrendered himself to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and posted bail for the PHP 1-billion cyber libel case filed against him by Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights (DUMPER) party-list representative Claudine Bautista-Lim.
In December, a panel of prosecutors in Davao Occidental indicted the actor over a cyber-libel complaint filed by Bautista-Lim after she received massive backlash on social media for her July 26 wedding at the luxurious Balesin Island Resort in Polilio, Quezon.
Meanwhile, complaints against six personalities, including celebrities Agot Isidro, Pokwang, and Ogie Diaz, who also tweeted about it, were dismissed, noting that it was only freedom of expression, unlike Enchong, who said the funds used in the lavish wedding were from the party list DUMPER.
Three other individuals, Deedee Marie Holliday, Kristina Mae Misajon, and Jane Doe, were also acquitted in the said case.
Dee reportedly surrendered after police failed to serve his warrant of arrest in his declared address in Cubao, Quezon City last Wednesday, Jan. 26. Residents in the area said the actor has not visited for some time and the place is just a property for lease.
Dee and his camp have yet to issue their statement on the matter.
