MANILA- The Japanese Embassy in the Philippines fully supports startups focusing on developing AI Tools for better disaster and crisis management.
Recently, the Embassy hosted a study session for Japanese startup Spectee, Inc., as they introduce their newly launched product called Spectee Pro, an AI-assisted tool using algorithms to monitor and anaylze social media feeds and identify breaking news and viral content.
The information is then gathered to be utilized for disaster-prevention and to help in crafting crisis management solutions.
In a separate sit-down meeting arranged by the Japanese Embassy, Spectee Inc. Chief Operating Officer (COO) NEGORO Satoshi said that the technology is currently being used by more than 100 government organizations and news offices in Japan, for the purpose of anticipating and mitigating disasters.
Spectee Pro is now in close coordination with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and the different local government units (LGUs) who are piloting the said technology.
According to the Embassy, the Philippines being a disaster-prone country, can greatly benefit from using such technology through early disaster detection and response to save more lives.
Japan has played a significant role in supporting the disaster risk reduction and management efforts in the Philippines. According to the Embassy, this study session is one of the various initiatives that Japan has offered to enhance the Philippines’ ability to prepare for and respond to natural disasters. It also underscores Japan’s commitment to regional resilience and disaster preparedness.
The study session was hosted by the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines KOSHIKAWA Kazuhiko, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chief Representativve SAKAMOTO Takema and attended by representatives from key government offices and agencies, as well as media organizations.
