Senator-elect JV Ejercito is calling on local government units to provide safer bike lanes, as he expects more commuters to shift to bicycles amid high fuel prices.

"Nananawagan po tayo ng mas ligtas at mas maayos na bike lanes sa ating mga lungsod at munisipyo," said Ejercito in a statement.

(We are calling on city governments and municipalities to provide safer and better bike lanes.)

According to the senator-elect, car and truck drivers are not the only ones plying the roads, but also bicycle riders, which he said will go grow even further amid surging fuel costs and problems in public transportation.

"Dahil sa pagtaas ng presyo ng gasolina at mga problema sa pampublikong transportasyon, inaasahan natin na dadami pa ang gagamit ng mga bisikleta at mga e-scooter," he said.

(Because of rising costs of gasoline and problems and problems in public transportation, we expect more users of bicycles and e-scooters.)

In November 2021, Ejercito was involved in a road mishap while cycling along Roxas Boulevard, where he lost control of his bike after hitting a small pothole on the road.
