The national government, in the initiative of Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD), will launched the food stamp program beginning with 50 familiies in Tondo on Tuesday, July 18.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said that the pilot for the program dubbed as “Walang Gutom 2027: Food Provision through Strategic Transfer and Alternative Measures Program (Food Stamp)” will run for six months.

“The pilot would take within that six months to fully mature,” the DSWD secretary told reporters at a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday.

He stated that the DSWD have identified the 50 families beneficiaries.

Gatchalian noted that these beneficiaries are “made of the poorest food-poor families” or those earning below P8,000 monthly, and families with pregnant and lactating women.

The electronic benefit transfer cards that will be given to the 50 families will be loaded with P3,000 per month in food credits.

Meanwhile, the DSWD Assistant Secretary clarified in a televised interview that Filipino families who believe they are “food poor” are not included in the targeted list of beneficiaries in the said program.
