The driver of the car that hit a 23-year-old student who fell from an LRT-1 station along EDSA–Congressional Avenue has been released from police custody, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
In a statement, police said the driver was freed Thursday afternoon after the victim’s father executed a notarized letter expressing that the family would no longer pursue charges against him.
QCPD added that based on their investigation and review of CCTV footage, there were no clear signs of negligence on the part of the driver in relation to the incident.
Authorities also said the driver fully cooperated while in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation, including the submission of necessary documents and compliance with legal procedures.
“The QCPD extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and assures the public of its commitment to conduct a fair, impartial, and transparent investigation,” the police said.
The incident happened Wednesday when the 23-year-old student fell from the LRT-1 station in the EDSA–Congressional Avenue area and landed on the roadway. At the time, a vehicle was passing and the driver was unable to brake immediately, resulting in the victim being struck.
The student was declared dead due to injuries sustained from the fall and impact.
