The Department of Transportation (DOTr) warned the public against a fake Facebook page named "Manila Metro" that is pretending to be affiliated with the agency.
In an advisory issued on Friday, January 26, the DOTr said the public should be cautious when engaging with suspicious social media accounts misrepresenting themselves as official government agencies.
"The public is being warned that the "Manila Metro" Facebook page is an official affiliate account of the DOTr or any of its attached agencies. It also does not represent AF Payments Inc., owner of Beep Cards," it said.
.
The unauthorized Facebook page was reportedly posing as the official DOTr channel which offers "12-month free subway rides".
"Any information, statements, or representations made on this page or through associated comments are not sanctioned by DOTr and its agencies," DOTr said.
The transportation department advised the public to refer only to officially recognized communication channels, including verified social media accounts and official websites.
"DOTr and its agencies reserve the right to take appropriate action against individuals or entities engaged in fraudulent activities, including the unauthorized use of its name or likeness for deceptive purposes," it said.
