The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday, March 1, tapped the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the entry of two smuggled Bugatti Chiron vehicles that have been registered under the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

In a press release, transportation chief Jaime Bautista reportedly sought NBI’s assistance in probing the smuggled luxury cars and deciding the liability of the people involved.

LTO-National Capital Region stated that its initial investigation noted that “documentary and procedural irregularities appear to surround the eventual registration of these luxury vehicles.”

This prompted Bautista’s directive to check on the LTO-NCR’s registration process for luxury vehicles.

The owner of the smuggled blue Bugatti Chiron earlier surrendered to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) after yielding the red Bugatti Chiron to the authorities.

BOC flagged the vehicles for being registered despite the absence of importation documents.
