The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered the filing of charges against Office for Transportation Security (OTS) personnel who were found involved in a baggage theft incident that happened on September 8.

In a statement on Thursday, DOTr said it directed the OTS to immediately file the necessary charges against the personnel who are involved in the caught-in-act theft and swallowing of $300 from a departing passenger.

Meanwhile, the Transportation Secretary expressed frustration and dismay over the incident at NAIA, knowing that he was trying to "promote among potential foreign investors who may want to operate and maintain the country's main gateway."

Bautista further directed the Undersecretary for Legal Affairs. Reiner Yebra to assist in filing the complaints against those determinedly involved in stealing from the handcarried bag of the Chinese passenger.

"The OTS, after concluding its investigation, had recommended to Sec. Bautista taking legal and administrative actions against the security screener caught on CCTV apparently swalllowing the stolen $300 in order to hide the evidence," the statement read.

The DOTr secretary has authorized imposing the maximum penalty on those found guilty to demonstrate the Department's determined push to rid NAIA as well as other attached agencies of scalawags.
