The Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the United Kingdom government teamed up to build a transit-oriented Education City in a 13-hectare complex in Taguig.
This initiative is part of the Senate DepEd Transit Oriented Development (SEED) Project, which aims to connect with the Metro Manila Subway and the North-South Commuter Railway. The project will feature a modern transport hub integrated with green spaces, as well as pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, all designed to make commuting easier and safer, particularly for students.
“It is important for the entire country because this project will pave the way for better projects in the future—not only transportation projects but also education projects,” DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), joined by Education Secretary Sonny Angara and British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils.
Dizon also emphasized the importance of inter-agency and international collaboration, noting that the partners involved in this project will play a significant role in its success.
Secretary Angara recommended the project as a forward-looking solution that bridges access to quality education with inclusive urban mobility. Seeing the SEED project as a catalyst for progress, especially in the transport sector of the country.
“This project will have a same catalytic effect not only on Taguig but definitely [on] Philippine transportation. We have the DOTr to shepherd and speed up this project,” Secretary Angara said.
The SEED project is expected to facilitate easier commuting for students while providing greener, safer, and more sustainable benefits.
