Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said that there will be no additional motorcycle (MC) taxis in Metro Manila due to the traffic it causes in the metro.
Through the concerns voiced out by the transport groups, which the House committee on Metro Manila development highlighted, the DOTr encouraged to maintain the current cap on MC taxis.
In a statement, Bautista mentioned that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) needs to prevent the addition of MC taxi units in Metro Manila.
The LTFRB announced on April 1 that it has already stopped the expansion of MC taxis in the metro since the schedule of the pilot study on the new mode of transportation will end in May.
As such, Bautista reiterated that the total of 8,000 MC taxi units that the LTFRB approved were intended for provincial usage.
For now, a total of 51,000 MC taxi slots are being used in the National Capital Region (NCR).
